Positive Steps has provided support to vulnerable adults for 25 years and accommodation has been one of the services provided for many years within Dundee City. Initially, this started as a guarantor based service for individuals who found gaining accommodation through the usual avenues difficult, they required support for various issues and needed our help to gain and sustain a tenancy.
Over the years the need for Supported Accommodation has continued to rise and our service has evolved to include both social housing and housing from private landlords. Our properties are dispersed throughout the city and we strive to place persons in accommodation that meets their support and wellbeing needs. We strive for social inclusion and offered a person-centred approach to all our support. We continually review and develop our services to ensure good communication and a positive experience for all our tenants.
Our properties are fully furnished and decorated and our aim is to provide a home not just a house. We support our tenants with all aspects of housing support though Positive Steps Housing Support Service to enable them to sustain their tenancy and reach independence. Once independence is reached, we sign the property over to the tenant and withdraw our support; we also gift the furnishings to the tenant. This process normally takes a minimum of two years and we feel that instead of moving a tenant, who has lived in a neighbourhood and has become active within a community, we withdraw our service and the tenant remains in situ.
Here is a Report based on 2014 Stats, that shows how successful this service has been not just for us as an organisation but for the Service Users.who managed to sustain their tenancies.
