Positive Steps is firmly committed to sharing our expertise in health & social welfare, & have developed partnerships with a number of agencies & community groups around the world. We have developed a number of exciting projects around the world which tackle poverty related issues, such as HIV/AIDS, & assist people in achieving healthy, sustainable independent living.
International development work has been on-going since 1996, with seed funding, technical support, gifts in kind & collaborative working partnerships being established with ten Indian registered NGO's (Non Government Organisations). A better quality of life is possible with the most simple things, such as fresh water, hygiene & dental programmes – right through to the provision of a small school for needy children. Community Centres holding regular family guidance workshops with a wide range of relevant topics, such as the importance of the family, family planning, sexually transmitted diseases, nourishing food & how to make the most of available resources drastically improve wellbeing within local communities whilst creating a positive platform to grow from.
Since 2008 Positive Steps has begun working in partnership with EAB in northern Brazil supporting a community project in Flores which assists subsistence farming & funding the building of a classroom & dining hall extension for a school in Patos. By gifting goats & education in their care we have now established small milk herds for local children. Providing seeds, tools & guidance has allowed impoverished families to create small plantations of the drought resistant "Moringa Trees", while drilling a central well has provided fresh drinking water to over twentyfive families. Finally, Positive Steps worked in partnership with EAB to fund a new classroom & dining hall extension for the school in Patos last year, a crowd of around 500 people gathered for the opening event & even the town band turned up to play!
In Malawi, Positive Steps supports nursery schools for around 100 pupils, providing porridge in the mornings (often the only meal these children were receiving). An irrigation system was developed to provide food for children & older members of the community, with seeds & fertiliser, planting clearance & development of sustainable crops easing the intolerable malnourishment faced daily by this community. A Home based Care project for older people in the village was established & supported. These individuals have no family, where children have died mainly from HIV. Without family to support them they rely on the dedication form a small group of volunteers to gather firewood, or bring washing materials, another invaluable service provided by Positive Steps. Without your donations we cannot continue to fund this support.
